严父 vs. 慈父

你的父亲是一位严父，还是一位慈父呢？

Spencer和Adam的爸爸对他们都采用“放养”式管理，给他们很大的自由。这也是北美的家长比较典型的一个态度。

What kind of fathers do you guys have?:  你们的爸爸都是哪一型的？

跟儿子称兄道弟

Adam的爸爸：

He always said the same five words to me, “Do what you want, pal.”: 我爸对我就那么一句话——“兄弟，做你想做的事！”

Spencer的爸爸：

No rule. No anything. Just do what you want: 没啥规矩，没啥限制，做你想做的事

北美爸爸真的不打孩子吗？碰到孩子真的不讲道理、屡教不改的时候，用什么方法？

He just needed a word, a sound or a facial expression and I could tell that he was disappointed: 我爸只需要一个词、一个声音、或者一个表情，就足以让我感觉到他的失望

孩子进入叛逆期

Spencer和Adam都表示上了高中之后多少有点叛逆，觉得爸妈思想太保守，所以变得比较少跟爸爸互动，更喜欢跟同学朋友出去玩。

Once I turned 13 or 14, I hung out with friends a lot and my dad a lot less: 13、14岁以后我就比较常跟朋友在一起，跟我爸的相处就少了

爸爸老了也叛逆

父亲们为孩子付出了大半辈子，心中可能还怀揣着年少的梦。Spencer说自己的爸爸现在还留着齐肩长发，还戏称他一边在院子里忙，一边心里还想着尚未实现的骑哈雷、当吉他手的梦想。
