Today we'll be talking about blended words in English that combine two existing words: 今天我们要说说英语里把两个词混在一起,组成一个新的混成词
For example:
Bromance: brother + romance 基友、基情
Murse: man + purse 男人的小夹包
% B9 b8 B% U0 \) N; |' u* y# W& o$ [( u, i7 o) S
) c- x. W8 K# w5 ?! g3 W! s
这类词叫“破馒头”

These words are called portmanteaus: 这些词叫混合词
Portmanteau sounds like 破馒头: Portmanteau听起来很像破馒头
Portmanteau is originally a French word. It means a suitcase with two compartments: portmanteau是一个法语词,原意指有两个夹层的皮箱
There are a lot of fun and useful portmanteaus in English. They'll help you sound very native and plugged in: 英语里有很多有趣的、实用的混成词;使用它们会让你的英语听起来很地道、对美国文化很了解

Hangry: hungry + angry 肚子一饿、脾气就很臭. D; G4 f9 g: l2 k, u2 `
Hangry is a pretty new word. It's been around for 2 or 3 years: hangry是个挺新的词,大概就是这两三年发明的3 [) o* d8 e8 ]7 A% W' p8 j
To coin a word: 发明一个词! T- e  c" t; i, t
Most of these terms have been newly coined, but some older portmanteaus have been in the English language for a long time, such as neither and brunch: 很多混成词是这两年才涌现的,但是也有一些历史悠久的混成词,比如:

Neither: not + either

It means to talk down to woman, in a very condescending way: 意思就是用很不懈、很轻蔑的口吻跟女人解释、说话

A man who mansplains is a mansplainer: 一个这样说教的男人是个mansplainer

, K+ f6 \+ x  T  EChill means to take it easy, to calm down:  chill的意思是放轻松+ _" g' f' ~$ z
If someone is very tense and stressed or angry, you can say "chill": 如果一个人很紧张、压力大、生气,你可以跟他说“chill”
2 k* c4 ^! J1 s5 XYou can use chillax to describe your weekend plans, e.g. I'm gonna chillax this weekend: 你能用chillax来谈论自己的周末安排,比如" I'm gonna chillax this weekend"
