Couples in Shanghai spend at least 200,000 yuan on average for their weddings, almost twice the amount spent by couples in any other city in China, according to a 2016 bluebook report of China’s wedding industry. The study pointed out that 80 percent of Chinese couples take wedding photos, buy wedding rings and hold a wedding banquet. Notably, the number of tables at the average Shanghai wedding banquet tends to exceeds 20, with the cost per table averaging 8,000 yuan.

A residential building on Guangxin Road in Putuo district was reported to have an excessive number of rooms and tenants. The building’s landlord changed the original architecture without authorization, dividing each floor into two separate floors in order to construct extra rooms that he could lease out. The district’s fire department said this structures rife with fire hazards and thus require its current tenants to move out.
