6月1日约21时28分，一艘从南京驶往重庆的客船“东方之星”号在长江中游湖北监利水域沉没。长江航务管理局最新情况：出事船舶载客458人，其中内宾406人、旅行社随行工作人员5人、船员47人。当日，该船上行至湖北监利，突遇龙卷风，船舶向北岸翻沉，呈倒扣状，给救援工作造成困难。截至6月2日8时，长江干线水上搜救协调中心已协调34艘公务船及多艘过往船舶在现场搜寻。。
