Last week we talked about how to ask for help: 上周我们说了怎么让人帮忙(那集节目点这里

A lot of you found it very practical, and wanted to know how to thank people afterwards: 很多朋友觉得很实用,想学得到帮助后,怎么表达感谢

There are many ways to thank someone, so once again, we'll start from small favors to bigger ones: 英语感谢的说法也很多,我们今天就从程度最轻说到程度最强的

"Thanks"比"Thank you"更常用

"Thanks" and "Thank you" are the two most common expressions: “thanks"和"thank you"是最常用的两种感谢方式
"Thanks" is more colloquial than "thank you": “thanks”比“thank you”更口语一点
Some people might be afraid to just say "thanks" because they don't think it's enough: 有些人怕说“thanks”,因为觉得不够
But native speakers say "thanks" all the time, especially with friends or coworkers, people they know: 但是母语者常说“thanks", 特别是和朋友、同事这样的熟人
Trust Adam; it's enough, at least for small matters: 相信Adam,日常小事,说“Thanks“就够了

When is it used? 什么时候用?
Small matters:  小事

英语常说“感激”

One word that's not often used in Chinese but frequently used in English is "appreciate": 有一个词中文里不常用,但英语里却很常用: "appreciate" (感激)
"感激" is for really big, life-changing, life-saving help in Chinese: 中文里用“感激”,通常是特别大的,改变人生或者救命之恩
But in English, "appreciate" is commonly used. It doesn't have to be life-changing, life-saving events: 但是英语里,"appreciate"这个词日常很常用,不一定是很大的事、救命之恩

好老板、好员工都常说“Appreciate it”

You can use it to replace "thank you very much": 可以用来代替"thank you very much"
It sounds more natural: 听起来更自然
It's used a lot at work: 工作中很常用
比如:

It's also a good way for the manager to express appreciation for their employees: 上级对下级用也很好,表示你尊重员工的工作
Especially when you're making requests, giving deadlines: 特别是提要求、 追进度的时候
