今天说说英语里最简单、也最复杂的两个词:

The use of "love" and "hate" in English is completely different from Chinese: 爱、恨在英语里的用法和中文非常不同

! }6 Z# z |& A口语里,“love”还能怎么用?

- I loved that movie. It was the best! 我太喜欢那部电影了,真好看!
- Did you see the show? 你看那个节目了吗?
- Yes, I totally love it! 看了,太喜欢了!
- How is the food? 菜好吃吗?
- I love it! Just love it! 好吃!我太喜欢了!' a% v, y! G6 k

% S& \7 ^" L! m! J: W# O上面这些日常情况,中文基本都会用“喜欢”表达情绪;
/ z ~1 t) l1 e4 V( W. i5 r
可是英语却要用“love".
/ F" y, R0 h5 ]0 |8 V/ K) j0 [1 D如果用“I like it", 反而容易造成误解!

Why?为什么?
; N% D* A' k$ Z"I like it" or "I like it very much" doesn't sound very sincere or enthusiastic: 我喜欢、我非常喜欢在英语里听起来反而有点不真诚、没什么热情

0 A8 D$ T/ P% P, K( ]7 O
总之:

表达你非常喜欢一个事物,大家记得用love!

家人之间的love
"Love" is also used a lot between family members, parents and kids: love在亲人、父母、孩子之间也很常用

- {$ V9 A9 W- A% I& R$ b
6 L9 i: W% D6 m9 iI don't think I've ever said "我爱你" to my parents: 我好像从来没对我父母说过“我爱你”

It feels so awkward. I don't know how to say it: 感觉很尴尬,不知怎么开口
" I# S' s; w; [. {/ _My parents don't really say it to me either: 我爸爸妈妈好像也不会跟我说
# q1 E" [3 K' a tBut I say "mommy loves you" to my sons all the time: 但是,我倒常用英语跟孩子说“mommy loves you"

I don't really say it in Chinese though, feels really awkward: 但是我不太用中文跟他们说“妈妈爱你”,也觉得很尴尬
1 m% |/ M' ]- z. ~; f! f6 pMaybe when it's not your mother tongue, it's easier to say: 有可能不是自己的母语,反而更容易说

不过有些美国人也觉得对家人说"I love you"有点儿别扭

/ d, |6 y, H6 H# VWASPs don't say it as much: 英国血统的美国人好像没那么常说“I love you"

They are more reserved: 他们比较含蓄

Sons don't say "I love you" as much as daughters: 还有儿子,也不像女儿那么愿意对父母说"I love you"
) n, f( d `3 j5 o) W4 AGirls, even grown-up girls say it all the time to their parents: 女儿,就算是成年了,也常跟父母说“I love you"

说完love, 说hate
中文“恨”是个特别强烈的字,日常很少用。
! r' N4 b4 Z* T( y$ N( |但是英语的hate口语却很常用。

基本,刚才所有用love的例子,也可以很自然地用hate。

比如:
" a6 L4 A. T' E b- I hated that movie. It was so bad. 那部电影太难看了,我一点儿都不喜欢。
- It has been raining non-stop. I hate this weather! 天天下雨,天气太讨厌了!
- Traffic is so bad. I hate it! 路真堵,烦死了!

所以,hate在口语里,更多是“讨厌”的意思,而不是恨。

用在人身上呢?
Be careful with using "hate" on people: 用在人身上,要特别谨慎

You can use it jokingly with your friends: 也许跟很好的朋友,可以用调侃的语气

比如:

A: My husband is taking me on a trip to Italy! 我老公要带我去意大利玩儿

B: Oh, I hate you! 哦,我恨你!羡慕、嫉妒、恨

But in general, hate is a very strong word if you use it on people: 不过总的来说,hate用在人身上,语气是很强的

But it's still pretty direct and strong: 不过语气还是挺直接、强烈的

A love hate relationship | 爱恨交织

4 y4 m" f$ r$ N5 I; h4 dA love hate relationship with someone or something: 又爱又恨、爱恨交加的关系
, z; V+ P( q' i6 e' c: |: L, Q5 a怎么用?
+ F% w3 s1 S$ E- I have a love hate relationship with my phone: 我对手机真是又爱又恨
- A love hate relationship with your work/your boss: 对于自己的工作、对于自己的老板,大概也有些爱恨交织的情绪
- Many foreigners have a love hate relationship with China: 很多外国人,对中国也是爱恨交织* L' C+ I& Q6 w' [
* C& l* q1 a+ i# r5 _5 E

They hate her for being so high-profile, but they love to read news about her: 很多人讨厌她高调、作秀,但同时又特别爱看她的八卦新闻
